High Visibility Workwear
High Visibility (Hi-Vis) workwear has transformed the Australian construction and labour industries. Health and safety is a high priority, and hi-vis workwear is hugely effective, highly recommended, and on many worksites, essential.
What is Hi-Vis workwear?
High Visibility workwear includes vests, jackets and pants designed to be clearly seen, even at night. Industrial workers and road crews work in dangerous environments where the risk of accident or injury is heightened, and the uptake of hi-vis jackets, hi-vis pants and hi-vis shirts has dramatically reduced the number of injuries to Australian workers. All high visibility workwear is bright, with florescent orange and yellow the most common colours. For night-time workers and those in areas of poor visibility, reflective perforated tape is adhered to the apparel. The high visibility shirts and other hi-vis workwear you choose should match your occupational needs for creation of a safer workplace. We have all hi-vis workwear solutions at RSEA Safety.
When is Hi-Vis required?
Hi-Vis work clothes are required on construction sites. They are also worn by plumbers, electricians and other tradies, along with road crews, service personnel, maintenance staff and anyone else who should be noticed for safety’s sake. Hi-Vis workwear is required for many good reasons, including:
- Improved worker safety: Construction is among the most dangerous industries in Australia. High visibility workwear makes workers (and others) safer
- Easily noticed by drivers: The Australian workforce is 24/7 these days, and hi-vis workwear is a boon to workers who can be seen from a distance while working on roads. hi-vis apparel is also important for daytime workers in a wide-range of industries where visibility equals safety.
- Mitigates hazards in poor weather: The hi-vis clothing you wear should be fit for purpose. Minimal hi-vis gear such as a hi-vis long sleeved shirt or vest is usually adequate for many workers including delivery drivers, warehouse workers and parking attendants. Workers such as school crossing guards and airport ground crews require more hi-vis workwear coverage, while road construction crews, emergency responders and others in dangerous occupations are expected to be fully protected with hi-vis gear and other safety equipment.
Where to buy Hi-Vis vest?
Not all high visibility workwear is created equal. If you require hi-vis work clothes that can handle tough treatment, there is no substitute for quality. RSEA, Australia’s leading workwear and workplace safety specialists, are the first choice for men’s and women’s hi-vis workwear. We partner with major brands including ELEVEN Workwear, CAT Workwear, DNC Workwear and Bisley to provide the widest available range of hi-vis work clothes suitable for day/night work.
Do I have to wear Hi-Vis?
Some jobs entail more risks than others, and in some occupations, workers are exposed to low visibility situations, potentially putting themselves or others in a dangerous situation. Occupations where hi-vis vests are essential for the safety of workers, along with public safety, include:
- Construction workers: Workers on tall structures, large building sites and road projects are required to wear hi-vis vests
- Heavy-duty equipment handlers: Hi-vis vests are required for workers exposed to heavy equipment or machinery in a wide range of industries
- Emergency responders: Emergency responders such as paramedics, the police and firefighters are required to wear hi-vis clothing due to the type of work they perform
- Security personnel: When crowds of people gather it can be difficult to locate the individuals in charge of preventing danger. Hi-vis vests from RSEA are the answer
There are many more occupations where high visibility workwear such as a hi-vis jacket, hi-vis hoodie or other hi-vis clothing are appropriate, and RSEA Safety has the quality and style required.
Does Hi-Vis work?
Florescent colours are easier to see during the daytime and with the adition of reflective tape, can also make garments compliant for night time use. The RSEA Safety range of hi-vis day/night workwear is there for all to see, including a hi-vis women’s workwear range. A pink hi-vis vest, available at RSEA Safety, is yet another way to stand out from the crowd.
How to clean Hi-Vis jackets?
Hi-Vis jackets should be hand washed or machine washed on the ‘delicate’ cycle using mild detergent. Avoid using fabric softener or bleach and only use gentle stain removers when necessary. Hi-Vis jackets can be dried on a line or ‘no heat’ setting in your dryer.
